Mandatory vaccination rules revoked

On 15th March 2022, the Government revoked the statutory requirements for mandatory vaccination for workers in the health and social care sector in England. It has also withdrawn guidance on mandatory vaccination for workers in care homes and social care settings other than care homes.

Whilst the government’s view is that it is no longer proportionate to require the vaccination through legislation, it considers that workers in the health and social care sectors have a professional duty to be vaccinated against Covid-19. As such, if you employ people in the health and care sector, you will need to strike a careful balance between the rights of your staff and the care you provide to service users, particularly those who are considered high-risk.
