In the 12 months since our last Employment law update there have been significant legislative changes; more may follow a general election. We are inviting you to join us for Watershed’s annual update on employment law for 2024. As usual we will be in Manchester and London in June.
We will look at Labour’s proposed changes to employment law and what employers can be doing now to prepare if Labour wins the election. We will talk about the recent legislative changes, including carer’s leave and new flexible working rights, and the associated Acas guidance.
Protection for pregnant employees has been extended. We will discuss the new rules, general protections and employment law considerations, including bonuses and how to give priority to those in a protected period in a redundancy situation without discriminating against other employees.
The surprising case of Harpur Trust v Brazel has changed holiday pay rules. We will describe the general holiday entitlement and pay calculation, the rules for irregular or part year workers and the determination of rolled up holiday pay.
We will put settlement agreements under the microscope: the technical requirements, the differences between the without prejudice rule and protection under s111A Employment Rights Act 1996, and tips for successful exit discussions
And of course, our annual update would not be complete without our in-depth look at recent case law, which this year will focus on discrimination and working at home vs office attendance. As usual we will help you deal with the challenges of employment law.
