Why Watershed?

Watershed is a third generation family-owned and managed, SRA regulated employment law firm. We work with an inspiring group of businesses and organisations, from large household names to SME’s, in a broad range of sectors. Watershed is part of the Collinson Grant group, a leading management consultancy with experience spanning more than 50 years. This provides opportunities to support on assignments that you would not gain exposure to in a traditional law firm.

We are looking for people who are passionate about employment law, take pride in their work, and want to work exclusively with ‘respondent’ clients. You will be able to develop long-lasting and trusting relationships with existing clients and help us grow and develop our business, attracting new clients.

We provide a supportive working environment in a small, close-knit team, where you will have the opportunity to advise on varied and interesting work, as well as contribute to the development and growth of our business.

Our work involves advising clients on both routine and complex matters covering all aspects of employment law, representing clients in the employment and employment appeal tribunals, advising on, managing and contributing to larger scale projects such as changing terms and conditions, collective redundancies, collective bargaining, and ‘TUPE’, undertaking investigations, chairing hearings and delivering training on employment law and managing people.

Training and Development

Ensuring our legal team stays ahead of the game is a no-brainer. They need to be up-to-speed on the latest laws and practices for the situations they advise clients on, and of course, be top-notch advisors. That’s why we’re serious about training and development.

Our comprehensive education and training program covers the nitty-gritty legal details and essential skills. Most of it goes down in-house, but we’re not shy about sending our lawyers to external courses when it adds value. Some of these even lead to certifications. Our partners and senior associates are the stars of our in-house training, ensuring it’s tailored to our needs. Plus, we love tapping into the insights of our clients and industry experts to spice up the training.

On the legal side, each practice group follows a similar structure: core sessions for the newbies, discussion groups for the pros, and general seminars on specific issues or the latest developments. We keep everyone in the loop with regular updates and share lessons from recent cases. Special groups across different practice areas cover additional training.

We also roll out skill-focused training courses for lawyers at different levels. Think management, communication, business development, and, of course, legal skills like drafting and negotiation. We’re all about making sure our lawyers understand the financial and business landscape where our clients operate.

Our lawyers are encouraged to take charge of their own growth. We discuss it during reviews and throughout the year with their mentors. Every lawyer gets paired up with a mentor, usually a partner or senior counsel, to guide them on their professional journey.
